Today on Digital Foundry, we're proud to publish a very special documentary video on Fuse Games' STAR WARS: Galactic Racer. It's culmination of months of work, visiting the studio, speaking to the staff and understanding how the team delivered the critically acclaimed game, playing it ourselves and piecing together the final video from hours of interview and behind-the-scenes footage.
Across 52 minutes of content, you'll hear from Fuse itself on how the studio was founded, how the collaboration with Lucasfilm Games was formed and why the developer chose to build STAR WARS: Galactic Racer around Unreal Engine 5. In the process you'll learn about the way UE5's core features were utilised, how Fuse achieved its target of simulation handling at 60 frames per second in a smoothly flowing, traversal stutter-free experience.
And speaking of Series S, the studio's solution in achieving excellent lighting without using the Lumen solution utilised on the other consoles is highlighted - a lightweight, but effective, option that's used to further scale the experience on PC too.
There's a wealth of tech minutiae to enjoy, encompassing both video and audio disciplines - but we also reveal Fuse's approach to authenticity to the core subject matter and why the studio believes that its narrative elements make STAR WARS: Galactic Racer more of an arcade adventure and not just an arcade racer.
