Between Patreon, Discord, and social media, a lot of our passionate community response has already emerged about the new site, including requests for features. Some might be as easy as a CSS toggle, while others may be too much for the launch window, but we figure this is a place to dump some of what might want, hope for, or expect.
A couple we've seen already:
Digital Foundry video downloads available at our homepage, as opposed to downloading them at Patreon: This is on our mind but not highest priority. We're looking into it.
Site theme to match device theme: Hoping this will be easy, but this could be a matter of Hookshot Media implementing such a feature across multiple sites. We're looking into it.
A handy-dandy database full of settings and optimisation suggestions for PC games: We love the idea, and we are unsure of how unwieldy it would be to not only launch this but maintain it to a DF standard. As in, we'd hate to lose track of games over time and have our "official" Battaglia-tested recommendations be outdated or faulty. But we're thinking about ways to possibly tackle this as a site feature.
Congrats on the launch; for the forum - is it possible to enable more text formatting and options like inserting images & videos in the editor - maybe something like TinyMCE could be integrated in the longer term? Though it'd be good to disable animated GIFs and the like as I find them tiresome - I'd like to see the forum be a place for substantive posts and replies.
One solution for the optimization settings, and a similar request that I have, is to have PC settings and recommended console settings (such as performance vs graphics modes) be community driven within the forums.
It's a lot of work on DF's end to maintain this, as you said, in particular given how regularly these games are updated. However, by DF focusing on producing the high quality content as you currently are, with full-length videos and updated recommendations during shorter segments on DF Weekly, the community can essentially log these recommendations for you.
Additionally, it provides a space for this very community, who shares your passion and interests, to then discuss amongst themselves and make recommendations once DF has chosen to move beyond covering the game.
I envision tables/charts made by people (more creative than me) outlining the most recent DF recommendations with dates of the recommendations, version numbers, etc. with a section for community recommendations for updates not covered by DF.
In this way, the information and DF's hard work has a place to be organized and distributed while also fostering community engagement.
Welcome Sam! And congratulations DF. I posted the following in a Patreon comment but figured I'd share it here in the appropriate place. My point of feedback would be to improve the readability of the headlines by changing the ALL CAPS style to normal style. In addition to better readability I feel the website would gain a calmer appearance across the board Cheers
I feel like John always manages to bring into the limelight obscure games that I'd otherwise never consider. Could you have a section called "In the spotlight" or something of that sort for each DF presenter, on it they'd list games that have piqued their interest in recent months/years.
On the main page, of the forums, it should show which thread was last replied on. Right now, it only says something like "24m ago by PonyOfWar", but not the name of the topic, which is a standard feature I've seen on most forums.
Appreciate it's a lot of work to host the videos, but could we get an ETA on when the bonus material will be available again? I subscribed to support the site, but honestly the only reason I selected the "premium" tier was to gain access to the 4K 120fps downloads. Paying twice as much each month without getting the advertised benefits doesn't seem fair.
More text formatting options, even basic ones like you'd have in MSWord would be enough: bold, cursive, justifying the text, font, highlights, emojis, embedding images and gifs.
