Topic: PlayStation Portal performance … better?!

Is it just me or has the streaming on the PS Portal improved?

I got this thing at launch and frankly it was a bit flakey even thought my PS5 was hardwired and I have a fast dedicated gaming wifi router; there was compression artefacts, loss of signal, all sorts of horrors that made it sub-optimal experience.

It's got better over time, but I was playing on it last night — now with PS5 Pro albeit still hardwired and same router — and the picture quality is excellent, no visible banding, and no sticky lag.

I was playing The Invincible which I appreciate is a walking simulator, but it looked really good. I've played other faster action games streamed from my PS5 Pro and honestly it's not at all bad.

Maybe it's the PS5 Pro grunt, maybe they've updated the firmware in the Portal itself, maybe they've updated the streaming software in the consoles, maybe it's just my imagination.

Does anyone else think it's got better and improved?!

I bought one for my 8 year old last Christmas, just after release, and I check in with it from time to time, just out of curiosity. I would say it’s definitely less bad than it was at launch, and that makes me happy for the little guy.

I’ve always found the meta narrative around this device a little funny, being that the larger community of vocal Portal supporters often refer to it as the “DadStation”.

I imagine millions of these poor Dads that have for some reason been evicted from their nice big TVs and entertainment centers, and left to scour their houses for a cozy spot to play less than ideal streaming versions of their favorite games.
