Microsoft's Disc-to-Digital programme kicked off last week for Xbox Insiders, and fans have already been hard at work cataloguing which games work - and which don't (yet). The best compendium I've seen so far has been at xct.live, where over 1400 working games have been listed, alongside just under 300 titles that are not supported.

While there have been some notable no-shows (including games with licensed content, such as the Forza series), most games do seem to work - including hundreds of games that have been delisted from online stores, which is nice.

Windows Central recently reported that some prominent games from Ubisoft have started working recently, so it will be interesting to see whether that information is quickly picked up by the community lists.

If you missed the original announcement, the programme uses the unique keys built into Xbox One and Xbox Series discs to convert a physical disc to a digital entitlement. This means that, for example, you can use an Xbox One or Xbox Series X with a disc drive to access physical games on new platforms, most notably Series S but also the One S All-Digital console and Xbox Ally handhelds. It's also likely that the upcoming Project Helix "family of devices" will also lack a disc drive, so this programme is also critical for enabling Xbox libraries to reach next generation hardware.

The entitlement can transfer to a new account if inserted into a different Xbox, so the system allows for game lending and used game sales too.
