Hardware leaker KeplerL2, known for pinpointing PS5 Pro specs with an excellent level of acccuracy, recently published nearly complete specs for Project Canis, Sony's rumoured PS6 handheld. We last published PS6 handheld specs, also from KeplerL2, around a year ago, so this is an interesting chance to catch up and see how things have crystalised.
First, here are the specs reported by KeplerL2 via Reddit:
- 6x AMD CPU cores (4x Zen 6c + 2x Zen 6 LP)
- 16x RDNA 5 (UDNA) graphics compute units
- 24GB LPDDR5X memory on a 192-bit bus
- A TDP range from 15 to 25W
There's not a huge variation in the specs here and what was reported earlier, though the memory bus appears to have shifted from 128-bit to 192-bit, which should allow the high-speed LPDDR5X to deliver more memory bandwidth - a key constraint for unlocking higher frame-rates in many gaming handhelds we've tested so far.
Other specs include a 1.2GHZ handheld mode clock speed, with docked mode operating at 1.65GHz. Interestingly, the handheld is meant to support a next-gen version of PSSR upscaling, PSSR 3.0, which includes frame generation. The handheld will be capable of playing PS4 and PS5 games locally, with support for next-gen games not necessarily guaranteed.
The last remaining unknown here is price, with Kepler suggesting earlier this year that a price under $600 would be an impossibility - and, given that pricing has only gotten worse for PC components over the last few months, I personally think anything under $1000 would feel like a huge coup, even for PS5-level performance.
What do you make of the specs? Would you buy a $1000 PS6 handheld? Let me know in the comments below.
