There's a lot of people misunderstanding what this technology is doing. It's not using "AI Image Generation" technology like you see in ChatGPT or Google or Adobe etc. It's not an "AI Filter" either. It doesn't learn from images scraped across the internet.

The only thing it's "generating" is a new pass of improved lighting effects. Yes, some of these have a dramatic effect on the way characters look, but it isn't actually changing any of their geometry or textures. All of that detail is already there in the normal maps. It's simply understanding that detail as micro geometry that can cast micro self shadowing, and doing other things like light penetrating surfaces and simulating pathtraced lighting. The original artistic intent is fully preserved. This just gets us closer to what the artist had in mind than the original engine could.
