How's it going everybody. I have my original n64 that id really love to refurbish myself. I played through Ocarina of Time with my son last year and bought Majora's Mask to continue the series but it keeps freezing. The console had run decently... It had some freezing and resetting issues with OOT but as it warmed up it ran fine. Now that i upgraded the memory expansion pak and try to play majora's mask, it can't make it more than 2 minutes before resetting or freezing. All my other games for the most part may need one reset and then run fine. Where do i go from here? I see no corrosion or burns on the motherboard or the game cartridge. I'm wondering if i should just replace all the capacitors? Any help is hugely appreciated.
From what you're describing it sounds like the issue is related to the memory expansion. I would start with cleaning the contacts there first, ideally you could test games out with the jumper pack (maybe that's why those other games only need the 1 reset if they aren't using the expanded memory?)
If you have a multimeter, it's also easy to check the PSU. I've yet to see a n64 with bad caps, it's not like the xbox in that regard, I wouldn't spend money doing that unless it was your last resort or you could physically see bad caps on the board
