I am sorry but rockstar should give in to a 60 fps mode or I am not buying the game, for real, in GTA 5 online car density is smaller and they can do that on gta 6. Also those RT reflections are really noisy. It is not that hard. But I have a hard time playing games at 30 like animal crossing on switch 2. I don't want to play this game at 30. 40, maybe. But for real, do you need all that RT noise on mirrors? I am sure there was a build of GTA 6 during the ps4 gen, that did not need RT. I am sure a lot of people would play a 60 fps mode. We shouldn't justify lazy because it sells. A lot of people that do not watch DF are playing their games with no game mode with "TV frame gen" and survive.

30 vs 60 FPS is not lazy, it is a design choice for a complex simulated world and potentially higher resolution graphics and some more modern effects.

If you do not like 30fps then wait for the PC version, that is what I will be doing, but I will not claim the developers are lazy for options for 30 vs 60.

I think that Rockstar have had a pretty singular artistic vision, to deliver the most dense, functioning open world that we've seen to date. I wouldn't want them to compromise that in pursuit of 60fps on consoles, particularly when, as you say, the bulk of the people buying the game couldn't tell you if it was 30fps or 60fps with a fictional gun to their head. I'm sure the subsequent PC release or next-gen console release will push higher frame rates on more capable hardware.

Personally I'm fine with a locked 30fps but the deal-breaker for me is the absence of a physical release: doubt Rockstar will notice either of our lost sales though!

The majority of gamers do not care about frame rates. Remember that the average gamer only buys Madden/Fifa, CoD & Rockstar's open world games/Hogwarts Legacy. It's why one of those games are the #1 selling game every year for the past 25 years.

Gta6 never had a PS4 build. While Rockstar has been in pre-production for a while, they didn't start full production until after RDR2 was released in 2018. By than Sony & Microsoft had already given the specs of their next gen consoles if not prototype devkits for the PS5 & Xbox Series consoles.

The main reason the game is 30fps is the CPUs of these consoles not the GPU. We've seen games with RTGI be 60+ fps like Doom: the Dark Ages & Indiana Jones. The main reason is the density of the game, physics simulation, hair & cloth simulation, jiggle physics, weight simulation, etc. Bringing back weight simulation was something they've wanted to do for a while but the PS360, RAM was an issue, while for the PS4/X1 CPUs were too weak while running at a graphical fidelity they wanted. While most open world games nowadays are dead open spaces, Rockstar wants to bring back the lived in spaces that used to be the norm and was way more fun.

funny that most games that sell a lot run at 60. Sports games, battle Royale, free to play and call of duty. All at 60

I agree with the others that a well-optimized 30 is far better than a rickety 60. I mean, the point of consoles is meant to be an affordable and well optimized experience, even if both of those points are almost moot in 2026...

@snorlaxcat you are comparing apples to oranges and reducing it to "run at 60 = sell lots" is a bad-faith argument. All of those games are simple in design, execution, and depth compared to recent GTA/RDR series entries, therefore the hardware requirements and design paradigms are a lot different; consoles are inherent tuning of tradeoffs, so while those games can trade simplicity for raw performance, you are going to have a hard time convincing me GTA6 is going to be a "simple game".

And all that aside, repeating the same points above, most of the people that will be buying this just do not care other than "my PS5 runs it". Guess we will see in 2-ish months...

I don't mean bad faith but it is true we are talking different depth so I take that argument to heart. The game will sell like pancakes, it is not that I am afraid of, it is the fact that people after the first play through may never want to go back. But that might be its purpose as well. Also the play through can be so long because of how much depth

@Snorlaxcat online will keep people playing for years, just like V.

Yes but they have to stick the landing first and they did not do that all with red dead online

@snorlaxcat don't get me wrong either, I'm right there with you in principle demanding development companies prioritise more time baking the goods over crunching for quick cash grabs and jank releases, but the GTA franchise is such a weird and wonderful unicorn, it is probably not the best example of the argument

Old axe grinds and all, but what some developers are accomplishing with their own hand-polished engines i.e. IDTech, Northlight, RAGE; it would be great to see more of this across the board (dare I say with Unreal 5...), especially in this return to the 90s of cost constraining hardware...
