Topic: What are your go-to PC handheld games?

I'm testing the Acer Atlas 8 handheld with Arc G3 Extreme graphics, and thought it would be interesting to get your thoughts on what games are your handheld go-tos so that I have a broader range of games to test.

For me, it's turn-based tactics stuff like BattleTech, roguelites like Hades 2 and racing games like Tokyo Xtreme Racer - all stuff that you can generally put pause for a second without too many issues, you can play for 30 minutes or less and accomplish something*.

What have you been playing recently on a PC handheld, and what do you keep going back to? Please let me know!

*Difficult if you're playing BattleTech Advanced Universe, given how long battles take, but doable in the base game!

The games I keep coming back to on my Steam Deck are Fallout 4 and Skyrim. My LCD Steam Deck is powerful enough to run them really well and is a great experience and I don't have to fiddle with settings to make a more demanding game run well.

I reckon My Time at Sandrock is a good candidate. It's handheld-friendly like your picks but is relatively heavy for a low-spec device. Even on PS5 it regularly drops out of VRR range, annoyingly (or at least it did last time I tried it!).

I've most recently been playing Big Walk on Steam Deck with a couple of friends. Runs acceptably well since graphics aren't the focus, but a few dips under 30fps occasionally which isn't ideal.

In terms of games that I return to over and over, I keep Sektori installed as it's fun to do a wee run when I have time then inevitably get killed. I've also got the original DIRT Rally game and Race Driver: Grid that I dipped into (although prefer DIRT with the wheel).

I've found that I can make it through a lot of games on PC handheld that I would probably have given up on had I played them on a console or desktop: things like Mad Max got a bit repetitive with the classic "Ubisoft approach" to game design but when on a handheld spending 5-10mins clearing a base felt like a worthwhile use of time rather than a chore. Imagine a lot of those style of games would be similar.

I started off with running epic previous-gen titles like Fallout 4, Skyrim, Witcher 3, Cyberpunk et al … but soon switched (no pun intended) to more bit-sized entertainment. Played a lot of Deep Rock Galactic plus titles one can play in 15 or 20 minute chunks, lovely metroidvanias (Ori games are gorgeous on OLED), cinematic puzzle-platformers (sci-fi, Dystopian, survival horror, creepy / grotesque / dark fairy tale inspired) are good for a few screens/puzzles at a time.

I don't play PC games on a handhold often, but I do have a Steam Deck, and I am usually picking it up to play Noita, Void Stranger, or Dave the Diver.

I've largely been using my Ally X to smash through the back-catalogue, currently playing Alan Wake 1 atm (side-by-side with Alan Wake 2 on PC!) and played through a bunch of games from 360 era up to the early modern era with Stray, Ace Combat 7, Marvel's Guardian's of the Galaxy.

Stray in particular felt good on handheld, as it ran well while making good use of the hardware, but also hits different when you are cosied up like a cat on a beanbag or couch.

Next up is resuming my AC7 playthrough... I reckon AC8 or Forza Horizon 6 would be a good one to give a go to stretch the G3 Extreme's legs a bit
