There are plenty of dedicated stat overlays for PC gaming designed to give you an idea of CPU and GPU temperatures, usage and so on, but most people eschew third-party options like RTSS for built-in alternatives by their graphics card vendor, operating system or Steam. Nvidia's offering is excellent for GeForce owners, especially if you want to ensure that DLSS overrides are being correctly applied, but it's lacked some key metrics - until now.
In short, as of version 11.0.9, the Nvidia statistics overlay now shows CPU temperature, one of the most critical measurements for troubleshooting and general peace-of-mind - and a figure that you'd previously have to turn to another app to check. Processor clock speeds and power consumption have been added too, so you can now get a good overview of general system performance.
To see the new metrics, enable the Nvidia overlay if necessary in the Nvidia app > Settings, then press Alt + Z to open it. From here, enter the Statistics area at the bottom of the screen, select the Custom view, then enable the overlay with Alt + R or by clicking at the top of the screen.
Then it's just the case of ticking the metrics you're interested in - I went with FPS, all three model overrides and CPU/GPU temps and utilisation. You can also adjust font sizes and colours and go from a one or two-line horizontal readout to a vertically stacked option if you have a lot of stats on screen at once.
However, there are still improvements to be made if the goal is to offer comprehensive performance tracking. VRAM and RAM usage are the most obvious missing stats at present, though it would be nice to see proper per-core CPU utilisation as well. Of course, there's always the likes of RTSS if you want this kind of granular detail.
