Re: Review: Nioh 3: The Katana Engine Lacks A Cutting Edge

In my opinion, the Katana Engine is the worst engine from a major developer right now, with From Software's one in second place. We have visuals that look from a late PS4 game paired with low resolutions, and even then it can't lock to 60 fps on modern consoles. Absolutely maddening, and this engine has been behind the times since at least Nioh. Their games are great, but if Team Ninja can't maintain their engine in proper shape, they should consider switching to another.

@NandoCalrissian 100% agree. Hope the best for them, and it would be great to get a few undemanding PS3 games running on PS5 (Rayman Origins would be awesome, for example). But if people think this is the first step towards having an extensive list of PS3 emulated games, they should think twice or thrice. If Sony still hasn't been able to get a reliable and reasonably performant PS3 emulator running, there's no way a 2 person studio can achieve it in just a few years.

As interesting as this is, I'm surprised some people are losing their heads over this release. Once they show their emulator running a third-party 3D game with decent performance, I'll be interested in their software. But with the emulator relying on HLE, I suspect this will result in just a few 2D games being released on PS5 and that's about it. We'll probably get the PS6 and, hopefully, a true PS3 emulator on it from Sony before RedoApps can make their emulator work well with more demanding games.
