You can post and include whole Youtube video's / social media posts / etc.

But a simple jpeg jpg png or gif wont do.

It’s a public forum. Maybe it’s a preventive action as embedding photos could easily be abused if there’s not 24/7 moderation here?

you need to use the img tag

Yes, as @Brunuu pointed out you need to using the img bbcode tags to embed an image currently.

We could look at auto-embed when it detects a link with a filename that looks like an image... if that would be helpful?

@antdickens Is it possible to just add bbcode shortcuts next to the posting window like on phpbb forums? People that are used to using forums will know how to add the code but new forum users won't know it and just having a button to press might be helpful.

So to get you image to display like I have done above you use the image bbcode which is [.img]linktoimage[/img] but without the fullstop (or period) at the start of the first [img] (you need to keep the / at the start of the closing img).
