Topic: Where to find DF video archive? (as Patreon supporter)

Hi all!

I have been a DF Patreon supporter for years, starting back in 2017. I particularly enjoyed the ability to download the videos, because that way the visual quality was much higher than the videos on YouTube.

After being away for a few years, I decided yesterday to become a Patreon supporter again—mainly for that ability to download the videos.

However, I can’t seem to find the video archive anywhere now? It used to be super easy to locate. Where is it hidden on the website these days?

And yes, I am logged in via Patreon. I've done so multiple times already, as I initially thought that might have been the issue.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

@Rossi46 last check it was being transitioned to internet archive and new videos will be available via the website soon. They lost the CDN they were using when they left IGN so content needs to be rehosted.

If there's a specific video that you wanted I'm sure one of the datahoarders on the Discord will be able to provide you with a link.

I was aware of the split between IGN and DF, but I hadn’t yet understood that the (temporary?) disappearance of the video archive was one of the consequences.

Thanks for the clarification! I’ll take a look at which videos I’d really like to revisit. Beyond that, let’s hope the archive returns soon, because otherwise my subscription holds little value for me.

@Rossi46 it has to be noted that the videos are still being delivered to patrons, just not through the old website. look for patreon mails from DF, they contain the direct links to every new download for every video that comes out. alternatively you can also find them in each patreon post in the description text of each video announcement. It's only the dedicated site to download them from that's still WIP.

I've been meaning to ask just this.

Alright, so, weeks have passed, and I'm either blind or there's still no way to access the video archive. What gives?

Hi there - access to the archive requires some work. The old digitalfoundry.net website that had this functionality was built upon the Gamer Network "Brockman" CMS that we do not have the rights to use - it belongs to IGN and we've left IGN. Rebuilding that functionality from scratch will take some time, but we do have the data of the website at least, which has the entries for each video and their location on the CDN.

We'll be looking into this and will try to come up with a solution when time allows.

Would a "early access" release using the basic FTP protocol be feasible, before building any web interface?

N.B. I used the graphical Filezilla client years ago with close to no IT experience — after managing to store my credentials in the client transferring data from and to a server with only (S)FTP access was smooth, comparable to a file manager with a "dual-directory" layout.

@Rich_Leadbetter Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
As long as this feature will be re-implemented eventually, I'm fine
Take your time, and keep up the good work.
