When we went independent, we lost the contract to service Eurogamer with tech content, which Will looked after for us, and in what was an extremely tricky period, we were yet to lay the foundations for a website of our own. To be fair to IGN, they took care of Will at the time - at least until the events of last week, where deep cuts were made to Gamer Network once again. The plan was always to reunite someday, but the bottom line is that IGN's loss is our gain.
The beloved British publication, which was sold by former owner ReedPop in 2024, along with other Gamer Network brands, is facing at least its second round of editorial layoffs since joining IGN, VGC understands.
That’s understood to include the brand’s most experienced editors and its entire four-person video team, though at least one position will be transferred to IGN, according to people with knowledge of the situation.
When comparing the current Eurogamer frontpage with an archive from March 3rd, at least the names Tom Orry (editorial director), Dom Peppiatt (deputy editorial director) and Alex Donaldson (editor-at-large) have been removed (from the 'our team' section).
