That line in the DF Direct made me smile so much It's so lovely to be part of a community that recognises that some of us are on the older side of life but still able to take part in a wonderful thing. Oh, and welcome to all the whippersnappers too! Enjoy your youth people - it's an incredible, precious thing.
@ExcessionOCP Young enough that this is the first forum that I've been a part of. I think there is something very special about having a community-focused website like this. A lot of people with similar passions/hobbies sharing something in a constructive way.
I do feel there's still a place for forums nowadays, reddit is too big and feels more anonymous, and discord is simply not great for finding help and discussion.
Have missed being part of a forum. I used to run one for a clan from back in the Dreamcast up to the Xbox 360 days! Reddit became dead to me after my favourite app had to stop working due to the API call BS they pulled, their native app is so bad, and full of adverts!

I agree. The moderation system at Reddit was never sustainable and turned out exactly like how everyone knew it would: petty people with petty power.
I was a moderator on the old GameFAQs boards many moons ago. The way theywe "enforced" the "rules" was sort of similar and I think speaks to why the website is a ghost town now.
I love the forums, I do not need to keep up with the constant messages like on discord where if you miss something it is no longer worth scrolling up because by the time you read it people will have moved on to discussing other things. With the forums I can come in at any part of the day and take part in discussions I find interesting. Hopefully more people will see the benefit of this type of format and that we won't see it die a natural death like many other, older forums have.

Yep, I don't understand how some people can think that Discord is any type of replacement for traditional forums. They're just completely different beasts in my opinion. If you're not interested in a more real-time conversation, there's just no substitute, in my mind. I was thrilled to hear about these forums. I'm hoping this ends up being an active, friendly place.
Yeah, Discord is great, but forums lead to different kinds of conversation that can typically go more in-depth. Nice to have the option of both.
I've never been able to get much of a sense of community from Reddit. It could probably only happen in smaller subreddits. The big and popular ones just have too many people.
Hehe, I smiled a bit too when I heard that while listening to the podcast. Nothing like forums for those of us who remember obscure facts like phpBB being the first free forum software (hope I'm right on that one).
And agreed about Discord being a poor replacement.
Our Discord is really great. If you're a paid Supporter please do check it out.
Our thinking on forums is pretty straightforward: if our Supporters are sharing so much quality stuff, why not do it in a format that's much easier to search and more persistent?

Yeah, forums are great! Each post has more meaning and stuff doesn't get lost in a sea of fast-paced chatter. The fact that it's very asynchronous makes it easier to contribute without getting drowned out. Thanks, DF!
Old is the new new. Forums are great, thanks DF. I would rather have kiss my business bye bye like square than be in a never ending off topic conversation
@ExcessionOCP if you go to https://www.patreon.com/cw/digitalfoundry/membership and scroll down to the quick links section there should be a button on the right that says "Connect to Discord" press that and it'll open Discord with the channel invite. It then does a check against your patreon account to allow you entry.
