Mine is this video... yes, Shadow of Mordor: PS3 Extended Frame-Rate Test
I'd love to know more about what happened with this port, and what its history is. I can't even imagine anyone testing it and saying "YEAH, release it!"
And since it's perhaps the worst-performing game on the PS3, I've wanted to play through the whole game for a while now. And I think the time has come to do it! I found a copy at CEX for 6 Euros!
And you? Which video made you do something like that?
I loved the DF Retro PowerSlave videos - they really gave me an appreciation of Lobotomy Software's work - but I didn't get a chance to play it until PowerSlave Exhumed came out in 2022. It quickly became one of my favourite games of the last few years, and I've replayed it a few times now - something I don't tend to do much anymore - alongside playing the very different PC version via a sourceport on my Steamdeck, which was fun, albeit quite different.
I also picked up a copy of the Saturn version and have the eerie PAL box art staring out from my shelf beside me here so it's nice to have it in physical form too.
I just remembered one: The Turok 2 remaster video, I bought on Switch thanks to this one. I didn't play much because I sucked at it, but it was cheap, so no biggie.
I bought Teardown and Tiny Glade after seeing the corresponding DF videos - mostly for the interesting software implementations of RT, because the gameplay itself turned out not to be my cup of tea...
But no regrets there! 8-)
I have to admit, I already bought the game and this was more at the beginning of RT becoming a real big thing, but when the following video got posted and I saw the notification of it, I somehow got a boner while on holiday. I was so enthusiastic about this analysis, then looked down and was like, wtf?! xD I think my brain was a bit confused at that time haha
Well... everything is a problem with this game, it doesn't run on PS3, it walks!
It's honestly fascinating, hahaha, maybe one of the worst ports of this generation.
John's eternal love for Ridge Racer as a series is what got me to go back and play Ridge Racer 2 for PSP, Ridge Racer 6 and a whole lot of Type 4 so it's really across the multiple videos he's been involved in going over the series.
You know, thinking about it Digital Foundry has probably put me off more games than actually made me want to buy lol.
They are very AAA heavy which I'm not really interested in most of the time.
It's nice when they cover stuff like Teardown (interesting physics gameplay) or even games like Pennys Big Breakaway (great art style not the usual RayTracing "realistic" stuff)
But I get it, AAA stuff is generally pushing graphics and it probably gets views.

A similar story here - I bought Lego Builder's Journey on the strength of the review, specifically RT implementation. It didn't hold my attention but it was a great way for me to show off my (then) new OLED monitor.

Oh, true - that one as well!
I had to force myself to finish it! 😅
It wasn't one video but Doom Eternal. I fell off of shooters for like 15ish years but I played Cyberpunk 2077 and loved it. I had a dash and double jump based build so I can move around a lot. I wanted to play something that was like that but I don't know shooters (15ish year hiatus). The only thing I could think of is that in all the benchmarking footage on DF, Doom Eternal seemed like a fast paced shooter where you can dash and zip around the map. Bought it, played it, it was indeed a fast paced shooter where you can dash and zip around the map, loved it.
I Bought a Nintendo switch on the back of one of the DF videos about Zelda, it looks incredible! I think it was John waxing lyrical about the game..... I'd never played it before.....
That Shadow of Mordor video makes me want to get it too, ha!
But for me that would be the Ridge Racer and Gran Turismo series, both after their respective retrospective videos on DF Retro. For Ridge Racer I got just the highlight entries but Gran Turismo got me into a rabbit hole of simracing. I ended up building this spreadsheet with a bunch of cars and all real-world tracks across various entries of Gran Turismo, Forza Motorsport, F1 and MotoGP games, including unlock requirements, to make a selection of tracks and cars common to most of them to do comparative racing.
(For those interested, the tracks are Laguna Seca, Suzuka, Silverstone and Catalunya, the cars the Mini Cooper, Mazda RX-7, BMW M3 GTR and Nissan R390)
A bit late but I really love in-person interviews and being a CDPR fan I really enjoyed Alex's recent interview after the Witcher 4 tech demo release. It must be difficult to get so many people who worked on something in one room but it's always interesting to get insight into how something was made. Hopefully Alex will get more opportunities to interview people at CDPR. Maybe John could get some people from GOG onto the retro podcast, that'd be swell.
