Topic: PlayStation 3 controller options

Does anyone have any recommendations for a third-party PS3 controller? I'd prefer something that works wirelessly. I still have a DualShock 3 and a Sixaxis, but I'd rather have something fresh.

I'm not concerned about pressure-sensitive buttons or motion-sensing. Something I could use on multiple systems would be nice but not necessary. Easily replaceable batteries would be a plus.

Also please only recommend controllers you have actually used with a PS3. Thanks!

Whenever I look into this, it seems one of the best options is to use a Brook adapter and then pair it with a modern controller, such as a Dualsense. However, I would love to hear of more alternatives too.

Edit: I should also note that you can pair a Dualsense directly to the PS3 via Bluetooth, but I think that comes with a few caveats such as being unable to use the PS button or the motion sensor.

Yeah, a friend of mine recommended the Brook Wingman XE2 and a DualShock 4, but I don't love the idea of spending $50 on an adapter that I still need a controller for. I might have a spare DualShock 4 in storage, though.

If you want the closest thing to compatibility you are looking at the retro fighters. It even has the pressure sensitive buttons if you have a backward compatibility model. Note that PS2 emulated games, Ala those on the store, do not support them.

It does not have six axis though.

I would stick with DS3 honestly.

I have heard of this retro fighters controller, but not having motion is a deal breaker for me considering that particular feature is widely used across PS3 titles. Also, I would think the Dualsense is a better option over the Dualshock 4 based on the fact that it supports multiple pairing, so it's not like you're buying a controller that will just be used for the adapter.

@Frosh could've been an interesting option, this new model, but their website doesn't ship to my country. If I ever get a hold of one of those adapters, I will post my experience with them, but for now I think I'll just use my DS3s until they refuse to work lol

I wound up buying a Retro Fighters Defender Bluetooth Edition: https://retrofighters.com/our-collection/defender-wireless-bl...

It arrived today. I played a little Mortal Kombat (2011), some Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, and Flower to test it out. It has rumble, and while I can't attest to pressure sensitivity for all buttons, the square button at least worked as expected in Metal Gear Solid 2. Flower controlled as expected with Sixaxis.

Still wish it had replaceable batteries, but I'm satisfied with it!
