I just thought that, since this is a retro gaming-themed forum, there should be a topic where people can talk about the metric ton of games that Hamster has released over the past decade-plus via the Arcade Archives. This topic can cover games released under the Arcade Archives, ACA NeoGeo, Arcade Archives 2, & ACA2Neo Geo labels.
What Arcade Archives releases have you all been playing, both lately & in the past? Which games do you really want to see be given the Arcade Archives treatment?
Personally, I've actually bee going back & giving Gee Bee a play every now & then, usually trying to see how high on the online rankings I can go (I'm currently in the 60s over on Switch 2 via the ACA2 release). Just a very cool & fun Breakout clone from Namco in 1978.
I also bought Tokyo Wars, which just came out, & I really wish this one had online play because while it's very simple it's really fun & manic in a way that I can easily see myself have a blast with it online. At least the ACA2 version supports 4-player split-screen.
We had a Tokyo Wars arcade cabinet at the Aladdin's Castle I worked at in the mid 2000s and I loved that thing. Seeing it pop up again is really really cool to me.
I picked up Mach Breakers immediately when that came out because it's just super fun, always a good button mashing time with friends.
I'd never seen Aqua Jet before and that's the kind of stuff I really like from Arcade Archives. Not a whole lot to it but just a nice fast Wave Race type game.
It's really easy to forget just how much work they've put into it over the years.
I guess if there's one game I'd really like to see it'd be The Cliffhanger: Edward Randy. Or just keep going with the mid 90s stuff like Aqua Jet and Tokyo Wars.
I’m always amazed by the trailers for Hamster’s Arcade Archives games, but I’ve never actually bought one. It looks like the Capcom Arcade collection is now getting a physical release. I know there are hundreds of these titles, but do you think they’ll ever release a physical collection or maybe a themed sub-collection? Personally, I think the chances are pretty slim.
There are physical collections for the ACA NeoGeo sub-label in Japan, and I imagine the reason why the main ACA label hasn't gotten any probably just comes down to logistics, due to how many partner companies are involved. ACA NeoGeo, on the other hand, is 99% SNK-owned so that's easier to do physical collections for.
