Just logged into the forum for the first time and I just got an X68000 for the first time... so that equals this thread (that will be dead AF but I'm gonna do it anyway).
Got a MSX2 last year and went down that rabbit hole and this year I picked up an X68000 XVI HD that's been completely serviced/recapped. I've maxed out the memory (12 MB), added an (original) MIDI card and have that hooked up to a Roland SC-88 (still need to pick up a Roland MT-32). I'm using a BlueSCSI V2 posing as (multiple) hard drives. Makes it really easy to swap files from PC > X68000 and most of my gaming is loading from the HDD image I put on the SD card. Was able to find a BlueSCSI build that had a Centronics-50 SCSI-1 connector so it plugs right into the back of the X68000 (was really surprised how easy it was to use and set up).
None of this has stopped me to picking up original physical releases lol. I have rapidly built up a collection and I have to confess I get a kick out using 5.25 inch floppies to load games in 2025. My X68000 came with an internal hard drive and I had completely forgot about the sounds of a mechanical hard drive starting up. I have the OG style mouse that can convert to a mini track ball, picked up the actual full size track ball controller and a friend picked up the cyber stick (flight stick) as a gift for me. I'm using a wireless 2.4G Megadrive controller as my main pad/controller.
This is going to sound goofy but... I have hardware that can run circles around this thing. Our phones these days have significantly more processing power. However out of all the hardware in my house (and there is alot) none of them evoke the sense of power that this thing does. I guess it's like if you own a 1960s Ferrari, modern cars could lap it but there's still a sense of power from something that was top dog in it's day.
The CPS1 ports are really impressive. Strider is one of my all time favorite games so it was the first X68000 game I purchased/played on my X68000 (was still waiting on the BlueSCSI at the time). The Dai Makaimura port is probably my favorite way to play the game now. It has an excellent MIDI OST.
