I enjoyed Digital Foundry's unboxing of the Core model. I think Rich said something along the lines of why would anyone get the premium model despite not having a HDTV and it reminded me that I indeed still used a CRT despite picking up the pro model. Glad I did too because the HDD was practically necessary. The system itself was sleek and the controller was very comfortable. In fact, I still think it feels more premium than successive controllers, particularly the launch Xbox One controller with its horrible bumpers.
Anyway, the early days of the Xbox 360 were great. I picked one up a year after launch along with Gears of War and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion so I had an awesome time with it. Remember trying to snipe across the Canals map in Gears?
It wouldn't be long before we got Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Crackdown etc. and of course most multi-platform games were better on the 360.
The 360 was an amazing console when it worked I had lots of issues with mine but I still adored the console and the games. I still consider it to be the best tiime in consoles with huge upgrades to game worlds and playability. Even now games from this era are rereleased as if they are a big thing today like Oblivion and Skyrim. Of course I loved the Halo games but was not into the Gears of War games personally. One of the games or should I say games I was into was the Orange Box. My 360 spent so much time with that in the drive. I never quite understood why it didn't contain a version of the original Half Life perhaps sacrificing portal and Team Fortress 2.
@BonzoBanana Sacrificing Portal, that's a bold statement!
I quite like portal but it wasn't a very important game for me and would have much preferred to have a version of Half LIfe on the 360 to make it a complete set of Half Life games. There isn't even a homebrew version of half life for 360 even though many other consoles have one including the original xbox.
I used to play the original Half Life a lot on my PS3 (backwards compatible model).
I can see the appeal of a complete set but Portal was too good to replace for me. I didn't have a particularly capable PC at the time so the Orange Box on Xbox 360 is how I played Portal.
