Topic: Final Fantasy XVI: Locations Exceeding 8GB VRAM Budget

After extended play, I’ve encountered several locations in the game that exceed the 8GB VRAM budget. In some cases, loading a save in areas such as Three Reeds can result in a frozen screen or even trigger an error dialogue. The only reliable workaround is to switch to the Low preset, which significantly reduces VRAM usage (unfortunately, the optimized settings suggested by DF do not resolve this issue).

Another problem is that the game does not properly release VRAM. The only way to free it up is by restarting the entire application.

The most problematic locations at present are:

Three Reeds – For 8GB VRAM cards, using the Low preset is essential.

Martha’s Rest and surrounding areas – The worst offender, averaging 8.5GB or more. Even the Low preset may not be sufficient to prevent issues.

Apodytery in Phoenix Gate Ruins (Buried Memories quest) – VRAM usage can quite exceed 8GB. Lowering textures to Medium or Low helps, but this area is not only VRAM-heavy—it remains demanding on the GPU even when VRAM limits aren’t reached.
