Topic: Ok so let me see if I understand how PSSR 2 is working..

The toggle can force it for PSSR1 games, there are a select few games that are being forced PSSR 2 regardless if the toggle is on(based on dev selection) and then future games will just use PSSR 2(or future) as warranted.. As of now no games have actually been fully patched for PSSR 2?

Right?

They sure made all of this easy to understand. When even DF can't get it straight out of the gate, what chance do us mere mortals have?

I foresee the toggle just going away and it being forced on period...

You should read Cerny's interview posted on this very DF web page, where he explained the reason for it being a toggle is that the forcing of the new PSSR may negatively affect subpixel detail on select scenes of select games. My conclusion from this is that I'll just leave the toggle on since the vast majority of the affected content ends up with a nicer resolve.

Yeah it seems there are some games that are always using the newer model regardless of the toggle. But I think that makes sense since those have been 'approved' anyway, meaning they don't need to be forced, nor do players really need a choice about it.

It sounds like we always want to use it anyway and leaving the option there is just out of an abundance of caution.

Tried some games yesterday to see if I could spot the difference. Now strictly judging by eye it looked like Dying Light the Beast in particular looked much cleaner than before. On the flipside I felt Forza Horizon 5 looked somewhat less stable than before. There seems to be a slight fizzle on the fine lines on the cars now. Another standout in the positive sense is AC Unity, that looks very nice now. You still get distracted by the pop up and texture pop in but the base image looks very clean.

I don't think Forza Horizon 5 uses PSSR.

No idea, placebo effect then.

BO7 is the only game I've tried that has worse IQ with the toggle on. Haven't tried many though. You can see it the best on the shag carpet on Nuketown, it's drastically worse.

They kept the toggle in case PSSR 2 introduces bugs or regressions, which is the right call in my opinion. Consoles have to play it safe when it comes to these features and hacks, since they are closed platforms you can't really work around bugs they way you can on PC. So I think they will keep the toggle for PSSR 2 and future versions.
