Topic: SWITCH 2 YEAR ONE

for real I know people love the switch 2 but it feels like a switch pro to me, nothing blowed my mind yet, any thoughts on how this "new gen" switch 2 has changed your life? For me having big games on the go is the big thing about this console... capcom games. But if I am not traveling why would I bother, also I am single and a cat so why would I go anywhere, I just like to play games on tv

You already formed your opinion so I am not sure the purpose of this post.
If video game consoles are changing your life then I would personally say you don't have many high stake priorities in life. I am enjoying it a lot while travelling and it's far cheaper than the Steamdeck and other portables.
It works for exactly the work case that I need it for.

I rarely play on-the-go. I bought grips for it to make it more comfortable though.

There are only a handful of must-have Switch 2 exclusives so far but I've been happy with mine. I played a few upgraded Switch games and it's nice to finally have decent image quality/performance. If you've never played either of the 3D Zelda games then I'd say it's worth it just for those!

Also, it's not going to go down in price any time soon so I don't feel like I jumped too early.

I'm not sure. Obviously-generational leaps don't really happen now so in that sense it does. But there is a huuuge gulf in playing Breath of the Wild on Switch vs Switch 2. Granted, it's still exactly the same game with no functional differences. I suppose you could point to Donkey Kong Bananza as evidence? That game likely would take some severe compromises if it were on Switch.

Isn't the Switch 2 pretty much the Switch Pro anyway. It was designed back in 2020/2021 and then they halted world release due to the Switch 1 still selling brilliantly and Covid. If it had been released back then it would have likely had 8Gb of DDR4 and 128GB of storage but because of the delay we got 12GB of DDR5 and 256GB of storage but fundamentally its the same GPU/CPU arrangement.

I'm pleased with my Switch 2 and enjoying it. I don't like the LCD panel much, it is acceptable but still rubbish. I think its a bit light on CPU performance but the GPU seems great for a portable system. I'd probably give it 7/10 and when a Switch 2 comes out with a better panel I'd probably give that 8/10 and if a OLED version comes out probably 10/10.

I admit I am a bit of an odd case as Xenoblade/Mario Kart aside, I don't really follow Nintendo's IPs. I just think their hardware is neat.

For me it's been excellent, probably my favourite console of the current generation. Third party support has been solid, and the general quality of ports has been pretty high. Pretty much everything I've played (i.e. not the Modern Warfare 4 Beta) looks good enough and runs well enough. Yes, it's a fraction of the visual fidelity I could get on my PC, but it also takes a fraction of the power and it's just so easy to hop in and out of. No funky launchers that forget my password every 5 mins, no always online drm, just the game.

In addition, the OS just works. Things are snappy (even in the dreaded eShop), and system software updates barely take any time to install. And on the occasions I've used it, I really liked Gamechat. It's stupid, but it's fun, especially when the game has special integrations for it.

It's just a fun device to use.

@sloppysnek Despite the doom and gloom over consoles, your reasoning here is why I hope they don't die, at least until PCs can do this. To be clear I play games on PC and consoles but actually booting a game is so much easier on the latter. The Switch/Switch 2 in particular is pretty much instant since its sleep mode is so lightweight.
