With the official announcement of the Steam Machine, do you think this will be what makes Linux a viable place to play all games you desire? A big hurdle has been the issue regarding anti-cheat tech in online games, which even the popularity of Steam Deck has struggled to move. Perhaps with an actual desktop/console Linux machine, created by Steam, we might see a shift? What are your thoughts?
I'm not really sure what all the barriers are for Linux to become the preferred OS for gaming, but it does seem closer than ever. I'd love to hear a break down on what has to happen tech-wise if anyone has some insight.
I think they will still struggle with the anticheat stuff. Also alternative (gog, epic) stores aren't as seamless as stuff bought on Steam.
If anyone has the clout to push for a change, it's Valve. Having said that, I don't think they will focus on anticheat; it's not harmed Steam Deck sales all that much.
