In our recent AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE review, we talked about how the $550 graphics card was great at playing the latest games, but came with a price-point that practically begged users to consider the more powerful, more memory-endowed RX 9070 instead. Nvidia's RTX 5070 barely entered the conversation as RX 9070 value was simply too good. Pricing varies across territories of course, but in the UK, the RTX 5070 is now more worthy of consideration as MSI brings the price down to just under £500.
In the current climate, these are good prices, so we decided to take a slightly wider ranging look at the UK graphics market, factoring in MSI's deals and the best AMD alternatives we could find. If you can find better for brand-new, non-refurbished cards, do let us know in the comments.
MSI's £500 RTX 5070 is the 2x Ventus model, available on Scan now at that price point until June 12th or until stocks last. Other deals on Scan include a £310 RTX 5060 Ti 8GB and a £260 RTX 5060. Obviously, it's a big price jump to £500 for the RTX 5070 and its 12GB of framebuffer memory, but if you've watched pretty much all of our recent PC performance reviews, you'll be aware of the struggles we've had in getting games to run at optimised settings without more memory. AMD's best answer to the RTX 5070 is the excellent RX 9070 16GB (yes, more memory than the RTX 5070 remember) and the cheapest current UK price we've seen is £519 for the PowerColor Reaper model.
Over on Amazon, MSI's sale includes £255 and £260 RTX 5060 8GB variants, alongside a more expensive, higher-end tri-fan RTX 5070 card at £570. The best AMD alternative we've seen for the RTX 60-class offerings is the PowerColour Hellhound RX 9060 XT 8GB for £300 with a 16GB varaint at £380. It's faster than the RTX 5060, but generally slower than the RTX 5060 Ti.
In the midst of a memory crisis, we've seen GPU costs inflate well beyond their initial suggested retail prices - but the good news is that at least there do remain some reasonable GPU deals out there, for UK PC gamers at least.
