Back when DLSS 4.5 was revealed, Alex found that he could actually get better results with the new DLSS presets L and M when in-game denoising solutions were disabled. This had the unexpected effect of minimising the typical "boiling" artefacts we can sometimes see with RT lighting and reflections.
Now, DF supporter speedlemur has applied the same findings to Control, which exhibits much the same issues with DLSS 4.5's L or M presets enabled. They have created a mod called Control Unfiltered that automatically disables the game's built-in denoiser, thereby cleaning up one of the tech's most prominent issues.
The difference here is stark too, with many reflections turning from a roiling mass into perfectly static elements that look far more natural. You can see this in action in the showcase video at the top of the article.

Installing the mod is fairly straightforward, though you will need to first ensure that Control's DLSS is being overridden to the latest 4.5 preset M or preset L in the Nvidia app. From there, you download and install the popular Reshade framework, selecting Control as a target, copy a file into the same directory as the Control_DX12.exe, then launch the game and press F10 to enable or disable the effect.
The mod does have some side effects, as speedlemur points out in the description. Namely, there is "brief smearing of specular highlights in motion" and "mild ambient occlusion style shadowing is lost". Neither sounds hugely problematic compared to the more noticeable boiling artefacts, but you can try it for yourself to see what you prefer.
What other games would benefit from this sort of override? Let me know in the comments below.
