Credit where credit is due, hopefully if / when all of their games use this approach it puts pressure on other launchers to do the same. Playing through AC Black Flag still, a few times when the Ubisoft launcher couldn’t connect I couldn’t play the game. Hopefully that goes away too
Something I'm curious about, it seems to offer improvements to lighting / shadowing and those types of areas, but using techniques other than ray tracing. Am I missing something there?
A lot of Nvidia's push in recent years has been towards ray tracing, which already has a significant cost. Adding this with shading techniques at a huge cost seems hard to justify
on the HDR point i'd love to know your thoughts on Windows HDR implementation vs Linux / KDE on your Bazzite custom Steam machine. i have a similar 4k 240hz OLED, the MSI 321URX. i started gaming on Linux on it mid-game, with Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. the KDE / Linux HDR implementation seems much more defined, but with HDR it's hard to know if i'm just imagining it! i've tried several games and it does seem the same though
I'm on my second Elite Series 2, with the first the A button didn't work 50% of the time. With the second the problem is still there, but now maybe 20% of the time so I just left it. Along with that, it's a few years old now and didn't age great, the rubber on the sticks is almost completely gone, the paddle adjustments snapped in half. Outside of this, it's still easily the best controller I've ever used. My hope is the build quality for the Series 3 is better, and if so I will definitely pick one up!
@wsjudd how do you find the Embody for gaming? I've almost bought one twice now in the last 10 years, first time opted for a new AM4 build instead and the second time for a 4080 Super (first 80 class card!). I have a Herman Miller Sayl and it's great for work, but for gaming it gets uncomfortable after an hour or so.
Would be curious on your take with the Embody. I'm a little older than you but looking at DF Alex and many colleagues I work with, protecting your body against long hours of sitting is easily as crucial as hitting 120fps
@MattGPT i know (or think )your point is referring to more recently released games, but almost all games from 2018 and dating backwards from there would likely run at maxed out settings. to @Tobility question on the number of games, quick look at the SteamDB gives a total of about 18k games that would run maxed out.
Probably an argument for someone more into retro gaming, but my take would be if you want a PC catalogue at full settings from 2018 backwards, or say 2022 with high settings, in a console format, it's an excellent but very expensive product for you.
As a product for current and future PC gaming, it's very limited.
@Obsidian76 I’m hopeful we reach a day where we get AMD reviews on Linux as its user base grows. Odd here there’s no ray tracing and they’re going straight to path tracing. I thought ray tracing was becoming standard
How are AMD CPU’s still behind Intel, given AMD have been making much better gaming CPU’s for years now? I don’t understand that. Are most steam players using custom built PC’s, and choosing Intel? Or is it something else. There seems to be no reason not to go with an AMD one for the past several years now
