Re: Nvidia's new DLSS 5 Brings Photo-Realistic Lighting To RTX 50-Series

The comments here and under the YouTube video feel like they're all pulling from the same bucket of angry gamer buzzwords.

I, for one, think this is a positive development and whilst I feel like it brings an overexposed look on quite a few shots in this current form, I do see the incredible potential here.

More so though, I am intrigued by the reaction of the audience who are posting comments. I wonder if some aspect of this is down to this being such a radical change versus the incremental differences we've become accustomed to across gaming, especially since the start of the HD era. Are gamers so conditioned to the typical "game" look that ANY radical jump forward is going to be shunned?

This tech does seem to walk much closer than ever before to the edge of uncanny valley. My guess is it might take a couple of iterations to push beyond that point and get closer to photorealism to shake that.

I hope the team spend some time during the next DF Direct really putting down some of the more reactionary language of other commenters here. It's important to understand the distinction between ML and Generative AI.
