@Stevie_Blunder I really wish I still had some of my original consoles from childhood, but the reality was that I had to trade things in, so remember trading in all my SNES console + games to offset the cost of a PS1, for instance.
I've managed to keep everything original since the Dreamcast era, so my OG DC, OG GameCube etc. and everything since, but still wish I had the OG SNES!
I actually still own most of my original consoles, I recently moved them to my own apartment as my parents' house was sold. The Atari 2600 and Master System are in working order, too, although most of the games have disappeared over the years. I also have my original PS1 and PS2 (which were gifted to me), but they need some servicing. My original PS3 (a slim model I bought myself) is in working order and I even installed some CFW to it, but I keep it stored as I plan to have some maintenance done to it since it's prone to restarting out of nowhere.
Pretty much all of my consoles from the N64 onwards are my original systems from back in the day. For SNES I had to re-buy one two years ago, still have to do the same for GB and GBA. Apart from that I have added a Dreamcast to my collection that I never owned as a teenager.
I tend to sell my older consoles as I don't have the room to keep older systems.
However, I do still have my black GameCube in its box at the back of cupboard along with 20 or so games, including all the classics like F-Zero GX, Resident 0, Resident Remake, Resident 4 etc, but then it is a small console even when boxed.
I expect it will still work although I haven't tested it as I no longer have a TV it will work on without buying an expensive cable.
I still have the PlayStation that my parents gifted to me on Christmas of 1997, when I was 9. Funny thing is, I started doing so bad in school cause I was spending all my time playing games that my parents ended up selling the console to my neighbor out of desperation.
A few years ago I coincidentally met my then neighbor again, and I asked if he still had it. He gave it back to me for free. It's the most precious item in my collection in terms of affection.
At this point the only "original" consoles I still own, i.e. anything from over a decade+ ago, would have to be my Dreamcast. I don't actually use my old Dreamcast, since I bought second one with a non-working disc drive that I replaced with an ODE (the TerraOnion), but I still hold onto it. I also still have my old Wii, Wii U, & 3DS XL, too.
I've since replaced my Genesis, Sega CD, 32X, PS1, Saturn, & Neo Geo CD with my Polymega (mainly for space reasons, but also convenience), while I've since replaced by old PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, & PS3 with other models, mainly due to a mix of space & simply the older ones showing signs of wear that made me unsure of if they'll still work in the future. My current Xbox, though, is a Frankenstein-ed mix of a modded unit I bought off of eBay & my original Xbox (mainly the disc drive & outer shell, so it still looks like my old Xbox on the outside).
I also used to have an Xbox One, PS4, & Switch, but I've since swapped all of those out with a Xbox Series X, PS5 Slim, & Switch 2, due to all of them featuring (more or less) full backwards compatibility.
I have purposely kept PS3, 3DS and Wii U because they still are the only way to play the majority of their libraries. Otherwise I rely on remakesports and the rare emulation. I've always considered myself more of a player than a collector.
I have collected them over the years. I recently got a Bliss-Box Bridge to use random controllers on random consoles. At first I just wanted to use my Saturn controller on all my consuls ( worked fine) but now its just fun to mix them up. It really shines where the controller suck, like intellivision or the 5200. Its nice using modern stuff on them.
