These days online gaming is dominated by the likes of CoD but back when I were a whipper-snapper I played Half-Life: Deathmatch day and night — business was slow at the time so slacked a bit in the day-time; I got to the point where I would almost always win 50/0 on Demon Internet or any other servers I played (in retrospect my dual-ISDN probably helped me).
Later I had a similar obsession with Half-Life 2: Deathmatch where I've probably racked up thousands of hours. Oh my goodness, how much I loved that game. Both of these Valve deathmatch titles had not just me but a wider group of about a dozen mates who played every day.
On the potential dawn of Half-Life 3 … I wonder if it will come with Half-Life 3: Deathmatch like the two previous games.
If all the physics and materials that are rumoured are true, HL3DM would be quite the blast!
