When compared with Switch 1 year one it is kind of similar but the lack of heavy hitters outside of the launch line-up has been a let down to me personally, specifically the fact that there are not many Switch 2 software and specially exclusive Switch 2 software. As for the DF perspective I think that I was expecting some games to fall more in line with ps4 pro/series S visual quality and most did not. The one showcase that I think shows the system at its best is Outlaws. Thoughts?
I wanted more High Res patches, tbh. I have a bit of a backlog from the switch 1 and pretty much none of them got any patches. Xenoblade games would really benefit from a higher resolution.
EDIT: Forgot to say, I don't really use the handheld mode because the Switch 2 is always in oversaturated mode, sadly.
I’m quite happy with it. I wish the battery life was a bit better, and the screen’s blur issue isn’t great, but thankfully I don’t find it super noticeable most of the time.
I don’t own any other handheld device, so for me even having all these great indie games on it is a great experience. Hades 2 offering 120fps via docked, and even Ball x Pit having a high framerate mode in handheld is really nice. I have no doubt the first party game built around this hardware are going to really shine.
Just a shame how underbaked Mario Kart World feels. The open world is quite delightful, but they did so little with it. A story mode with boss battle races and events could have been incredible, and would have justified the $80 price a lot more than what we got.
Oh, and that announcement the other day about Pikmin 4 getting an update, but no Switch 2 support was mildly infuriating. That game could be quite the showcase for this hardware if it was allowed to fully utilize it.
I'm pretty content with it so far and I don't regret jumping onboard early given the trends we've seen with other consoles actually going up in price.
The device itself is nice, though somewhat uncomfortable to hold after a while, and the screen is not great but I'm mainly playing docked so neither issue upsets me too much. My biggest gripe is the lack of VRR in docked mode.
New games are limited but Donkey Kong Bananza was excellent and just being able to play Nintendo games like Echoes of Wisdom and Pokemon Scarlet at a stable framerate with decent image quality is good enough for me. Hopefully Xenoblade 3 gets one!
I think it's a safe but very solid launch and it's everything Nintendo wanted and needed for a soft transition between two generations.
Though as @MetsukiR I would have hoped more patches for first party games.
I'm baffled there's no 60fps patch for Paper Mario. But it might still happen.
So far I’ve pretty much played Zelda:TOTK and some MKW on it. I’ve got DK:B and the Galaxy remasters but they’re waiting their turn.
Screen is really bad, but the console is quite good and feels way better quality-wise than the OG switch. Also, with some grips added it’s really comfortable.
Currently Playing: CyberPunk 2077, Tomb Raider Remastered, Super Mario Bros 2, SSX3, Zelda TOTK, Donkey Kong Bananza, Coral Island, Mario Kart World
At least there are many games that benefit from the extra juice without any patch required though I reckon they're saving some for dry spells in the calendar.
I play docked in my living room. I am pretty pleased with both DK Bonanza and Mario Kart, but neither has anything like a 'wow' factor for me.
However I do my handheld gaming on a Deck OLED, eclipsing what would otherwise be a great use case, panel issues notwithstanding.
I got one for a deep discount on launch (thanks, ailing British retailer doomed to go bankrupt) and would not have been happy paying full price. But prices likely won't drop and the showstopping games will inevitably come.
I’d say yes, it’s what I expected.
I knew the first year would be a mix of Switch carryover with upgrades and some new releases with the heavy hitters in 2026.
I’m enjoying it but more for the Indies that perform well and are addicting.
I'm really disappointed, I thought we would see dlss/ frame gen added to the switch 1 library but not the case. Some games look terrible (Final Fantasy 12)
My current understanding is that it's in "Beta" and Nintendo have a proven record for supporting consoles for a very very long time, so I'm sure I'll get my money's worth in the end
Speaking money's worth, Nintendo Games are EXPENSIVE, it may end up with a library of games but will I purchase them. Probably not
@SirTobyGirl We suspect at Pokemon Scarlet/Violet uses DLSS in its Switch 2 upgrade at least, but I agree that there haven't been many deliberate upgrades. I think the problem is that enabling DLSS isn't just flicking a switch.
I wanted more High Res patches, tbh. I have a bit of a backlog from the switch 1 and pretty much none of them got any patches. Xenoblade games would really benefit from a higher resolution.
Yea. I have to agree. I remember laughing at how bad the last Xeno game release looked on switch.
