A podcast nearly five years in the making! Behold, the DF Retro Super Show, our new biweekly podcast about all things retro gaming. We wanted to kick this long-in-development show off with a bang, and in good news for us, we had a timely, meaty milestone to attach our debut to: the 25th anniversary of PlayStation 2's launch.

From a macro-level look at the mega-selling console's worldwide rollout to a game-by-game breakdown of each North American launch game, we spare no verbal expense in making sense of concepts like the Emotion Engine, promising pre-launch tech demos, and the endlessly repeated promise of video games that look like the film Toy Story.

This week's three-hour episode features our hosting core of DF's own John Linneman, longtime DF contributor Audi Sorlie, and My Life In Gaming co-founders (and frequent DF contributors) Coury Carlson and Marc "Try4ce" Duddle. In future episodes, we plan to add guests to our roster while combining a mix of "news" coverage (scare quotes, of course, for newsworthy updates to decades-old topics) and deeper-dive retrospectives.

On the news front this week, we look at a compelling master list of upscaler analysis from retro community supersource WobblingPixels (which you can peruse for yourself), fan-made ports of Flashback and X-Men Arcade to the Sega Saturn, and another megaton anniversary for our hosts: the 40th anniversary of Yu Suzuki's arcade smash Space Harrier.

As part of Digital Foundry's recent shift to independent ownership, we had promised expanded DF Retro coverage, and the DF Retro Super Show is a significant part of that effort. (For more on its journey from concept to reality, check out the above segment from a recent DF Direct Weekly episode.) Like everything else we do, this show revolves around your input and excitement, so please let us know what you're interested in, as we are eager to earn your retro-podcast time and attention. (Admittedly, we've seen some topic requests already and absolutely have relevant content in the works.)
