Cool... i need a Netflix subscription to watch the trailer for a game i need a Rockstar subscription for the ability to play online with a PS+ subscription.
Really loving this all digital subscription future...
Just went to my physical store, paid the physical person there with physical money who handed me a physical copy
Joking aside, I am looking forward to this. Shadows was my first Assasins Creed and I really enjoyed it, and everyone talks about Black Flag very fondly, so its great to see the effort they have put into this remake.
Oh, and I lied... the money wasnt physical... but the game is
Just wondering.. and these are bogus numbers and dodgy math so feel free to rip into me.. but let's say 20% of game sales are physical. I am in that 20%. But I also buy digital for smaller pick up and play, VR and some titles that are digital only. So my split is 50/50 digital vs physical, and some people would be higher.
If Sony alienates and destroys their relationship with people like me who purchase both formats and I quit playstation, then they lose not only the physical sales when they stop in 2028, but also my digital sales. So effectively they could stand to lose 20% disc + 20% digital, reducing their total combined sales by 40%? I know not actual numbers, just basic example, but I see a lot of people commenting physical buyers make up a small % of purchases, but most of them like me buy digital as well so they stand to lose just as many or more digital sales if physical buyers quit playstation.
Add PS+ cancellations on top, and it could have a sizable impact financially. Im sure they looked the numbers, but I'm curious what impact they anticipated on reduced digital sales.
I understand physical is lower profit margin, but physical is what gets me on the brand and a gateway to purchase digital. When I worked in retail, we had bigger ticket items that had lower profit margin because it got people into the store who then bought the accessories to go along with it which had big mark ups. Physical is essentially this for a lot of people like me, it gets me on the platform and into their store where I then purchase additional products on digital with larger margins and subscribe to PS+. Without physical, they not only lose physical sales, but all the value add on digital and subscription sales for people like me.
I can only speak to a small % of people around me, but everyone of my friends, family and colleges feel the same way and looking to quit playstation if Sony quits physical games.
Anyway, thats ramblings and thoughts. Feel free to roast me
Bought every PS console day 1... both hand helds... both VR headsets... and PS+ subscriber in the early years of PS3.
Just cancelled my PS+ subscription after all these years.
The playstation brand is a shell of its former self. Wasting millions chasing Games as a Service only for them to fail because no one actually wants them.. to then punish beloved studios like Bluepoint for Sony's stupidity and greed by shutting them down, and to then destroy any last ounce of brand loyalty by forcing digital only. Sony has proven they no longer care about the gaming community and only care about greed and shareholders.
As for comments about the PC has been digital forever. Yes. I support digital. But remeber, PC you have the choice what store you buy from online. There is competition. Console you had the choice of physical stores or digital... now there will only be Sony digital store in a closed system with no alternative stores alowed and paid subscription just to play online... they will have a monopoly.
For a long time Sony were really about the gaming community and listened to their fans. But the current leadership have just s$%t all over the community and their goodwill, so with a heavy heart I will not look at continuing my playstation journey. I will continue to enjoy my collection, but if they choose to follow a path of greed, then PS5 is the last Sony console I will own.
This makes me extremely sad. I have PS1 to PS5, PSP to PSVita, PSVR1 and PSVR2. Always supported Sony as I felt they genuinely supported gamers.
But their focus on games as a service... destroying and closing studios like BluePoint, and now killing off physical media... I can see the people currently in charge of the Playstation brand are no longer about gamers but profits and shareholders.
If this is true, PS5 could be the last Playstation console I ever own. Always supported them from the very start, and this feels like a real kick in the guts.
Missing one choice from the vote... 'Will not buy until disc version released'.
Rockstar are completely within their rights to not put the disc in the case. I am also completely within my rights to not buy the game. I was looking forward to playing GTA6, but I can wait. Plenty of other great games I want to play that still support physical media and I will.support them.
Unfortunately I expect I am in the minority since many will have FOMO and just buy it regardless of their feelings around this, and Rockstar are simply taking advantage of this.
I am not against digital downloads. I have many of them. But for big games I always like to purchase physical copies. Physical case with just a paper slip in it with a code. No thank you.
Congrats and well done to you all! Long time DF fan, and its great to see everything comming together! I am sure Rich will agree, the only thing missing from this site is the 'Bubsy' or 'Crazy Frog' theme button to really jazz the site up

Re: "Don't Kill the Disc": Petition Against Sony PS5 and PS6 Digital Media Plans Reaches 120,000 Signatures
Signed petition. Cancelled PS+. Removed payment methods from account. Purged my wishlist. Unsubbed emails and gave my feedback to them under "other".
Will continue to purchase disc based games only, and when that stops, we'll.. its been fun all these years from PS1 to PS5, but time to move on.
Oh, never preordered GTA6 so didn't need to cancel that one
