My partner and I are avid gamers, it’s a way of life for us. I believe gaming is uncomparable to other media like film and music, you spend only 45-200 minutes with them, with games, you can spend long periods of your life, months, years even, exploring, playing, connecting, socialising, sharing with people from all over the world. Physical ownership of those memories is very important, it’s a tangible connection to those experiences. I believe PlayStation are killing Art, killing culture, killing communities and ultimately killing freedom. My tin foil hat is also ringing the alarm. What happens when a government deems ‘guns’ in gaming illegal, licenses revoked. When the Oddworld franchise is deemed ‘anti-capitalist’ not in the interests of corporations anymore, license revoked. When the rise in knife crime is ultimately blamed on gaming corrupting the youth, licenses revoked. Gone forever. I know this is extreme, but we all know it’s happening in other areas of media and internet. We’ve vowed to no longer support the PlayStation brand, we will continue to purchase physical games we want but only through second hand markets, we’ve cancelled subscriptions and will focus on the companies who offer physical. We are not buying a PS6, we are investing in Steam and PC. At least steam have secondary markets and their customer service is impeccable. Nintendo will be our main system, as long as they continue to offer physical. As for collecting, we plan to back up our digital game installs on back up media, maybe SD or USBs, hard drives even, design and create our own cases and media, print labels and manuals, then display in our libraries. It will be great fun for us to share together going forwards. If buying digital is not ownership, then piracy and back up media is not stealing. I’m 43, game collecting and gaming has been a major part of my life, as it has been for this community. We’ve been through a lot together over the years as gamers, we’ve supported, invested and stayed loyal to PS while others have failed and fallen. We own every system apart from the current Xbox offering, PlayStation had our loyalty, sadly, this is no more. Please vote with your wallets, make your voice heard. Why should we suffer for their profit and control? This is not the future we want. Stay safe all! 🙏🏻 @XrisDio
