Each of the game benchmarks here is a real capture that we've performed on our Ryzen 7 9800X3D test system. Data from every frame of the benchmark is recorded with FrameView, cut out with our custom tools, uploaded to the Eurogamer website and transformed into the charts and live frame-rate and frame-time metrics below.
This section continues our look at RT gaming performance, with demanding sections from Dying Light 2, F1 24 and Hitman: World of Assassination (also known as Hitman 3). All three games offer integrated benchmarks that we're using for our testing, so if you have these games you can easily run the tests on your own system at matching settings to get an idea of the performance disparity.
Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 is another classic RT test we've long appreciated for its prologue cutscene. Here, the 5090 is 25 percent faster than the 4090 at 4K, with a 2x improvement versus the 3090 Ti and close to a 3.8x boost against the 2080 Ti. The 5090 is the only card that can deliver more than a 60fps average at a native 4K with all the bells and whistles turned on - though of course DLSS is available to lower the burden substantially.
F1 24
The rain in Bahrain falls mainly on the racetrack, as we see from our GPU testing scene from F1 24. The Codemasters EGO engine continues to bristle with RT features, while also being one of the few esports-adjacent titles in our test suite. With RT enabled, the 5090 outdoes the 4090 by a solid 30 percent, increasing to a 2x multiplier against the RTX 3090 Ti - something we've already heard a few times in this review. The 2080 Ti struggles, perhaps due to its VRAM allocation, with a 3.8x increase for the 5090.
Hitman: World of Assassination
Hitman: World of Assassination isn't well known for being an RT workout, but it's included here for the sake of completeness - and actually one of the more demanding tests in the suite. We see a solid 30 percent improvement for the RTX 5090 over RTX 4090, with a nearly 2.3x boost versus the 3090 Ti and nearly 4.3x improvement versus the old 2080 Ti. The game is running here at max settings, but even so, you're looking at an RTX 4090 or above to get a better than 60fps average at a native 4K.
