John’s DF Retro vid for Tony Hawk 1+2 was always one of my favorites, so I was so excited to get another one with 3+4, and it did not disappoint. Love seeing the history of the games followed by analysis of the updated version of the games.
I personally bought 3+4 on PS5 Pro and Switch 2 and it’s very good on both. One of my favorites of the year.
I really enjoyed it too, it's been a while since we had a comprehensive look at a franchise like this (or, at least, somewhat comprehensive, considering the sheer amount of games under the TH banner).
I do look forward for some DF Retro coverage on the later games, especially the PS3/360 ones, hopefully we won't have to wait until Activision decides to revisit the franchise before we get that.
You can really see John's passion in the video. I love the idea of Tony Hawk but I've never mastered the controls, alas I always had to watch my brother play it to get the fix.
It definitely makes me want to get it even more now, as I had held off for the time being due to having other games to play. I noticed in the comments that a bunch of people rag on John for his feelings toward THPS4, but I think John explained his feelings about the campaign structure just fine, and people arguing that Activision would completely upend a hypothetical THUG1&2 remake are especially being silly, I feel.

I completely agree with John about THPS4. I think the original game structure was quite flawed and boring. I prefer how it is in the remake.
I suspect they’re done remaking the old games, and I couldn’t be happier having the best games in the series on modern platforms. I think they might be letting Iron Galaxy make a whole new game from here. They did great with the new maps in this game.
I remember picking up THPS 1 not having heard much about it and not expecting much, but discovering an amazing game! It was an awesome surprise.
THPS 3 was my favourite though, it was such a leap over the PS1 games and the one I remembered most vividly. They lost me with THPS4 though, I didn't enjoy the revamped structure at all.
I'm not even that much into such games (skating/biking/stunts) but that didn't matter. The in-depth nature of these retrospectives, the interesting way John or Alex presents them, and the nostalgic references that strike a chord with those of us who remember those times, always make the DF Retro videos a must-watch.
Woo! I'm glad ya'll enjoyed it. The video took a while to release as my time was split halfway through and it went on the backburner for a couple months. I was determined to finish it, though!
Yeah I just want to say I throughly enjoyed the retrospective look at these games and it was really interesting to see the other games that were all in the same family.
I’m looking forward to more of these sorts of videos and I will almost certainly watch a video about any game series you wish to explore in this format.
Really enjoyed this, been back to playing the Switch 2 version since! Also made me realise I was playing it wrong haha, I took John's tip to go to the free mode and learn the maps better 😆

I was aware you were working on it for a while and was getting nervous it might never see the light of day. So glad you got it done.

FYI, if you have trouble hitting some of the goals within the 2 minute timer you can go to the settings and change the timer to whatever you want, all the way up to an hour. Makes the game more laid back for me.
