Topic: Is it even worth waiting for HDMI 2.2?

So I own a PS5 Pro, and for the moment, am planning to make the switch to PS6 once that comes out.
I own a 2021 Samsung QN90A 50 Neo QLED TV that is slowely starting to show it's age.

Now I read that in 2027 the first TVs supporting HDMI 2.2 will start coming out. I have been looking into the specs of HDMI 2.2, and I am wondering if it is even worth it to wait for it if I'm gonna be using a PS6. I feel like even a PS6 is still within limits of HDMI 2.1.

I mostly play vast open world games. So mostly high graphics instead high framerates.

What are your views on this? Worth waiting for?

(First time posting something so I hope I'm doing this right.)

HDMI 2.1 is good for (uncompressed) 4K 120FPS or (compressed) 8K 60FPS.

You will not need more than HDMI 2.1 for PS6.

PS6 baseline target is only likely to be (upscaled) 4K 60fps with Frame generation allowing upto 4K 120fps.

Pointless feature to wait for, IMO.

HDMI 2.2 will use a new enhanced VRR which Project Helix and PS6 will probably support. The current HDMI 2.1 VRR implementation isn't good, which is what the PS5 uses, probably because Sony TVs only support that standard.

The Xbox Series consoles support HDMI VRR & FreeSync Premium Pro with TVs that support FreeSync having better VRR.

So while Sony may never support Freesync (even though it's built into every AMD GPU) it will support the new HDMI VRR standard.

Frame generation will certainly be more of a thing next-gen but I don't know how much of a focus there will be on going beyond 120FPS any time soon. I personally wouldn't wait if you're eyeing up a substantial TV upgrade now.

So I made the decision to skip HDMI 2.2 for now. I bought a 2026 Samsung R95H 65 inch. This is a mini RGB tv with HDMI 2.1. For now, and even with the PS6, it looks like HDMI 2.1 is more then enough. I mean look at GTA6. That will probably be 30 or 40 fps on the Pro.

I mostly upgrade tvs every 5 years. As some already said, Framegen will be something Next Gen brings. But even then I don't see fps going beyond 120fps in the coming 5 years. So in 2031 it will be a nice upgrade for me. And by then it might be more of a necessity.
