Topic: It's worth checking out the PS5 Pro Upscaling of 900p Assassin's Creed Unity (60FPS PS4 Disc Version without updates)

I got the PS4 disc copy of Unity so I checked it out on my original PS5, ran smooth at 60fps when you play offline without letting it update, but looked rough on my 65" TV. Fired it up again now on the PS5 Pro and to my surprise the game now looks closer to Assassin's Creed Syndicate with the recent resolution bump update.

The Pro must be doing some heavy lifting because I found the game to be distractingly low res on PS5 on the same TV, but I'm now playing through it on the Pro at what looks like noticeably higher resolution to me. It's worth checking out if you can get a hold of a disc copy.

I wonder if PSSR is involved in some sort of upscaling here, it looks to be doing a good job.

Didn't Unity get a PS5 patch at 60fps?

Also, PSSR will not do anything for a game without a patch and I don't think there are any PS4 games with Pro patches. Interesting idea though.

The PS5 Pro does have that improve PS4 setting but I found that it doesn't do anything that my eyes can see.

Word of warning though, the unpatched version of the game had game breaking bugs. Might actually be a better idea to settle for 30fps with the guarantee you won't run into one.

Syndicate did.

How can it involve pssr if it isn't updated?

It's just using the standard Pro option to enhance image quality for PS4 games. PS4 games that are native 1080p or lower (basically anything not PS4 Pro patched) gets image quality enhancement on PS5 Pro; just sharpens it up a bit.

It definitely did something to Unity and cleans it up okay, but I personally don’t see it very comparable to Syndicate. I play a lot of LEGO games with my son and have found that it sharpens those titles up pretty nicely! LEGO Batman 3 looks especially sharp, though there are some artifacts. LEGO Marvel also has some issues with two players having the character menu open at the same time.
