Interesting and I hope you enjoy it. But the whole point of the steam machine was to have a very small silent box, which is not achieved here. Its also twice the price. So its not comparable to a steam machine at all.
None the less, I hope you update us on how the machine performs and your experience using Steam OS.

@MattGPT Thanks for your suggestions. Its been a long time since I bothered to build my own and my current one was bought pre built from a well respected supplier. I'm pretty sure the modifications you suggest would help enormously, but I'm not given to modifying or building any longer, and they are only a small part of why I don't get on with PC gaming and prefer to sit on my couch with a controller instead. I've worked with PC's all my life, was instrumental in rolling out the original PC's when I worked for IBM in central London and then was a AAA game dev for over 20 years. Sitting at a desk with a PC will always feel like a work scenario for me, but thats a me thing. Incidentally, congratulations on getting yours to be so silent, I have two pros and both are completely silent, so getting a PC to be completely silent under load is quiet an achievement in my experience - apart from the fanless ones I run as data backup and Plex and music servers etc.
I do appreciate everyone will see this differently and if I wanted a console and I didn't have them all already, I would not be happy with the specs. I simply want to play a lot of simple steam games I didn't play over the last decade with a silent cool machine that sits under my telly and doesn't have windows, so for me the spec is absolutely fine as I'll play the newer tech games on the other consoles. I think that they will find an audience like myself and have no issues selling their projected stock for quite some time.
Thanks again for your suggestions, they are genuinely appreciated.

People who wish to compare this to a current console standard will no doubt struggle to see the value.
But for those of us who own all the consoles this is not such a clear cut choice. Its performance is picked so that the box stays cool and quiet, which to me is absolutely essential, one of the reasons I never game on my £4k pc rig is endless ramping up of fans and heat the moment you push it - its a hideous way to relax with games. For accessing all the games I actually want on Steam, the box is absolutely in the right technical place and I'll continue to play the more technically challenging titles on my PS5 pros or on the Series X.
I feel sorry for Valve, this is a really coherent design that would have hit the right price points if the world had not gone mad. Theres no point in throwing away the investment and design they have made while waiting for cheaper components, at least by releasing, even in this climate, they will realise the design and provide an (expensive) option for those of us want it. I put my name on the lists for the top bundle immediately and I hope I'm successful.
