Released in 2007 by Game Republic With Sony, Folklore is one of the PlayStation 3’s most distinctive early titles, a blend of dark fantasy, atmospheric storytelling and creature-collecting action gameplay.
While it never became a mainstream hit, it grew into a beloved cult classic thanks to its unique identity and artistic ambition.
I first played this game 2~3 years ago, and since then I've wished I could play something similar again.
Because Folklore launched early in the PS3’s life, many expected its Sixaxis motion controls to feel gimmicky BUT instead, and I will stand by this!
They have the best implementation of the entire generation. They actually work, and they’re accurate!!
Folklore included an online feature for creating and sharing custom maps. Remarkably, this feature still works, letting players upload and download user-made challenges even years after the game’s release.
<> Performance <>
Folklore’s performance starts out decent, but it gets worse as the game goes on. The final section shows the biggest issues, and the last boss in particular suffers from terrible framerate drops, making the fight noticeably rough.
Graphically, the game is pretty good for 2007, with "detailed" environments, creative creature designs, and a strong art style that still holds up surprisingly well today.
<> Another Playstation Game left to the dust <>
It’s a shame that Folklore has been completely abandoned by Sony. Despite its unique art style, atmosphere, and gameplay, it has never received a remaster, HD port, or re-release of any kind.
I know the game wasn't a success and in fact used copies are expensive nowadays.
However, I think that with some improvements, like voice acting for all the dialogue, it would make a good enough re-release for a more mainstream audience.
I really enjoyed my time with Folklore, and I can definitely vouch for the motion controls feeling like an interesting addition to the gameplay. I actually got all the DLC for it too, the DLC is certainly not as strong as the base game, but it's still fun!
I actually liked this game a lot. Had a really nice art direction.
The PS3 had an incredible lineup of exclusives and even though a lot of it got ported, there are still many that are stuck on PS3. Puppeteer is good example. Such a gem of a game.

Yeh, the dlcs are just small quests, but I still think they're also worth it
