Neo Retro = New games with retro vibes

I'll start by introducing you to The Myth of a Godslayer :

It's a top-down Action-RPG inspired by great classics from the 16 and 32-bit eras such as Zelda of course, as well as Alundra, but mainly The Legend of Oasis on the Sega Saturn.

Okay, full disclosure: I’m the developer of the game. Hopefully that doesn’t break any rules, but since I made it, I can give you some insights that might interest some DF fans.

The game was made using RPG Maker VX Ace, for those who doesn't know it's a completely outdated engine (it doesn't even use the GPU!) made by Enterbrain in 2011, and is part of a series of tools designed to let people without programming knowledge make classic turn-based RPGs, but if you know how to code you can push it much further, and that’s exactly what I did.

I've added a DX11 layer that captures the game's output and upscales it using some shaders you’d normally find in emulators.
One of them is MMPX, a filter that attempt to magnify pixel art while preserving its art style.

My game is a mix of pixel art (world, characters) and smoothed graphics (UI, SFX, shadows), and for that ReverseAA works wonders.

Look at that shadow filtering! And you can combine both filters too.

But maybe you'll prefer to use the GOAT of upscalers: ScaleFX.

It handles oblique lines like nothing else.

Or if you hate pixels entirely, there's always SMAA+FSR.

That's it for the upscalers, there's a few more filters, a 'modern' one that boosts contrast with some bloom, a 'retro' NES palette with dithering, and even a black frame insertion option! But this post is already long enough, so if you want to discover the rest feel free to check out the demo: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3817260/The_Myth_of_a_Gods...
