Are you noticing stuttering in either an old or new game and can’t figure out why it’s happening? The struggle is real in this thread. Who knows: maybe your collective insights will lead to a larger Digital Foundry investigation about your biggest gaming pain point on either PC or console (but, really, probably PC). The same goes for any news about game updates and patches that appear to effectively improve shader pre-compilation processes, resolve traversal stutter, or even falsely advertise fixes.
Pretty sure RDR2 still has a fair bit of traversal stutter. Booted it up recently and it wasn't a very smooth high frame rate experience especially around Saint Denis. Running a 5800x3D.
Is this a place purely for venting akin to Alex each time we all discover stuttering and bad frame times? Or will it have a list of fixes and/or workarounds to solve them?
The fact that consoles had this fixed but we are only just beginning to see a possible fix from Microsoft on PC is criminal. Yes, I know PC hardware is more complex, but we've had cloud compute for so long now... If Microsoft are inevitably not going to fix Windows, reliably fixing this would keep me. Or conversely, if Valve offered something (not just to steam decks) I would create a Linux partition in a heartbeat
Not sure if it’s me. But I always seem to get a massive frame time spike whenever I just start a new life in a #Battlefield 6 game about 2 seconds into the life. It’s not traversal surely? Is it asset loading stutter?
To bring something positive, for years there WAS an annoying stutter in Forza Horizon 5 on PC in free roam and The Eliminator (basically racing in free roam). 6 months ago I posted a video about it and filed a bug report. PlayGround Games fixed the issue in the next game update. I had to channel the powers of THE Alex on this one...
