@Hustler_One makes sense, but here's what I was thinking for my situation:

Streaming to a flat panel (e.g. steam deck or similar) (i) creates light pollution in the room that my partner may not appreciate while they sleep and (ii) is a little bit cumbersome on the hands. What I mean by (ii) is that an xbox controller feels a lot more comfortable to me than holding a steam deck.

The VR headset would, in theory, fix this. No light pollution in the room and I would be able to hold an xbox controller, which feels comfortable. That might be a bit of a silly setup, and maybe the discomfort of a heavy headset outweighs the discomfort of just holding a steam deck or similar product. But I was thinking it could be worth a shot.

In the past I've tried streaming to a logitech g cloud and everything was great except (i) light pollution and (ii) the sticks on the g cloud felt awful — playing a game like Oblivion remastered was almost impossible with those sticks.

Edit: I'll also add that, interestingly, the Steam Frame seems to market streaming flat games to the Frame pretty heavily! So they seem to think it's a compelling way to experience flat games.

No way around the light pollution issue (although in a dark room, you don't really need a lot of brightness, so maybe an oled screen could be an acceptable alternative), but the comfort issue could be resolved by way of using a clip that fits around your preferred controller and holds a screen such as a phone in place. Although that usually makes it somewhat of an unbalanced hold compared against just holding the controller.
