@Eruanno I actually do pre-order some titles months ahead, but only for big franchises I love or developers I am 100% invested in and trust to make great games. Digital pre-orders usually comes with bonuses of some type, and (eventually close to release) allow pre-loading on your console so the game is ready to go at its unlock time. Which for me in my time zone, is almost always 11 PM on the day before release.
Resident Evil Requiem is the last one I pre-ordered, since I've played every RE title there is. And I just pre-ordered Marvel's Wolverine, since I have played nearly ever Insomniac title they have developed - yes even Fuse haha. Every Spyro the Dragon, every Ratchet & Clank, every Resistance and every Spider-Man game so far. I think I've only missed Sunset Overdrive since I don't buy Xbox consoles, and their random PC/mobile stuff.
But you're right - if I pre-ordered Wolverine just a day before release, the end result would have been the same. Same bonuses, same pre-load, etc.
My two cents: I think, very specifically because of backwards-compatibility concerns and wanting to retain their loyal fanbase, the next Xbox should absolutely include a disc drive on every system. But, and I know the haters won't like this, I think that Xbox should definitely be the last one to include a disc drive. Further - I don't think Project Helix games should have a physical release at all. I know! But it just seems like it might be time (I'm guessing Nov 2027 for release) and with Xbox Play Anywhere and Project Helix really being a PC in the first place, it makes sense. Lastly, I think the disc-to-digital transition should be the mail-in process. Again, I know, that is just the way it makes most sense to me.
Curious if you guys did any testing on the Win 5 (or Strix Halo in general) with some CPU cores disabled. AMD chose to go for broke on the CPU side, with two CCDs full of "real" fat Zen 5 cores with 512-bit AVX units and all. But - those take up a great deal of power, and for the vast majority of games, are totally unneeded. What happens when you completely disable one of the CCDs - taking it down to 8 cores/16 threads? This would not only match PS5 (and the rumored PS6 handheld) in cores/threads, but the real question is how much extra power could then be sent to the GPU to further boost framerates?
