Re: Sony Kills Physical PS5 Games, Starting in January 2028: A Gigantic Hint That PS6 Will Be "Adorably All-Digital"

@Simplex_ The difference is that Sony is completely removing access, digital would be ok if you can always access and purchase it! I've been with Steam since day 1 before they were a digital storefront and Steam was basically just a launcher for Valve games like Half-life, counterstrike, and team fortress. I bought my original copy of Half-life on physical media though have long since lost that copy yet I can download that game today on Steam 20 years later, you can also purchase that game today, no access has been removed.

@Darren1967 I think Nintendo probably did think about VRR, it's a problem specifically with the display port cable. I discovered this issue myself after getting an LG soundbar that would work with my LG TV. The soundbar itself didn't have HDMI 2.1, just 2.0 so I wasn't get 120hz with VRR, my graphics card has 2 display ports and 1 HDMI 2.1 so I figured no problem HDMI to soundbar and plug that into my HDMI Arc port on the display, use display port for video.

Here is the problem, in theory this works, I bought a display port cord which technically supports 4k 120 hz but in practice this does not work with VRR. This should work, it's technically supported but it does not work. I did figure my setup in the end and now have great sound and 120hz VRR.

This I believe is where Nintendo probably looked into it but realized too late it doesn't work, it should work, it's supported, it just doesn't work in practice.

@MattGPT I can see this happening with me right now as well since there just aren't enough big exclusives early in it's life which is why the wait isn't so bad, it's not like I don't have other game options too. I was also in the same boat as you with Switch 1 which I also own just for the exclusives and would only ever play in handheld mode because of it's 1080p max resolution and no good HDR implementations it just never looked good on my 4k OLED screen.

Switch 2 can upscale to 4k and does support HDR so it's more viable on the screen though you have the issue of it not supporting VRR docked and definitely drops frames. I'm sensitive to these frame drops and tearing issues so I feel I would use it like I did for my switch 1 which is handheld only as that screen supports VRR and can visually smooth out that framerate, it just currently doesn't have the best screen

Unfortunately gaming on a PC for many years now has spoiled me in regards to playing on a big screen with high resolutions, high framerates, and high settings. I'm happy Switch 2 has DLSS as I just would not be able to stand that FSR raytracing fizzle artifacts that the other consoles get. We need that Switch 2 OLED or a version supporting VRR docked.

It's an interesting novelty for players who have only been playing on consoles and ready to make that jump into a more PC like environment, I know some of my friends who only game on consoles are beginning to shift into looking at this due to flexibility of settings with PC and of course incredible modding communities!

The price is definitely showing what is happening with the current shortages and it's a huge step for console players who may find a better bang for the buck elsewhere. In Canada the extra storage model of the steam machine with the controller is almost $2,100 and you can find surprising deals still on prebuilts on Amazon seemingly unaffected by this crisis maybe due to warehouses of these PC's that haven't sold yet. For this price you could easily find a prebuilt with a decent Nvidia graphics card for the best upscaler of DLSS. I was just looking at one there for $4,100 CAD with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and an RTX 5080, this is near top of the line and significant step up from this for an extra $2,000 difference!

I Love the older Star Fox games, Nintendo is not making it easy for a guy who is waiting on the Switch 2 for an OLED upgrade with this game, the ocarina of time announcement, and Metroid Prime 4. I will continue to wait as I'm not there quite yet, I have my PC for just about every game other than Nintendo exclusives and Evercade exp-R (and soon Evercade Nexus) for retro portable play.

This truly looks great though, just 1 more game like this and I'll probably just buy a Switch 2.
