Wasn't it confirmed to be UE 5.5 for this new update, I remember them announcing that version at least. They've said nothing about 5.8. I'll be happy to just see hardware lumen at least.
Double the price of a 6 year old console that it gets outperformed by and doesn't even include a controller. This is ridiculous, what an awful value proposition. It's going to age even worse considering its vram limits and ps6 due soon.

"it doesn't have access to original game assets, geometry, depth or per-material metadata,". Surely they should work on integrating this and it would solve a lot of the potential issues.
I think they should have disabled screen space shadows, used shadow maps over VSM and cube maps over lumen reflections for glossy materials and this might have let them claw back to a higher resolution. The higher options would have been fine for high end PCs. Also, why is hardware lumen very rarely an option on PC, even on these newer unreal engine builds.
Bizarre list really. A mega drive game and a switch 1 game in the main top 10 list? Death Stranding 2 was very inconsistent looking too to fit into the top 3 selection. The real time cutscenes looked amazing, but then a lot of the actual gameplay had some rough looking areas. Ghost of Yotei is very last gen looking too except for the impressive draw distance. I'm surprised there's no metal gear delta mentioned, shame about the heavy performance, but in actual visual quality it looked amazing, easily one of the best looking games this year.
@SteamyDeck Steam OS still has problems with multiplayer games reliant on anti-cheat though, so hopefully this is something that devs can fix, but it currently stands as a big issue.

Re: Which PlayStation 3 Games Deserve a Full Black Flag Resynced Style Remaster?
Not stuck on ps3, but I'd love the see a proper remake of the Saboteur. It's basically an assassin's creed game anyways.
Re: Death Stranding 2, One Year On: A Technical Philosophy That Continues to Impress
It looked great in cutscenes and fine in gameplay, nothing visually groundbreaking. Lighting and geometry are far from the best this generation.

Real time AI slop, now in your videogames. Great, thanks Nvidia
