Having physical media is why I own multiple systems. Sony ditching physical games removes the need to own a PS6 for me, so thank you Sony for saving me some future money.
In some ways, the Steam Machine is taking a similar approach to Switch 2; mediocre hardware with good enough specs/ support to handle newer games. The big advantage is access to a ridiculous library of games, including emulation and wotnot. The downside is the price of course, but every system in the future will have that problem.
Ignoring the ludicrous prices for a second; one benefit Steam Machines do bring to the PC gaming landscape is a fixed spec that devs can tweak their games at. Valve's influence may encourage devs implement such configs sooner than later, but who knows.
I hate these code in a box releases. If you're going to waste that much plastic and paper with an empty dvd case, why not give people something cool like a fake GTA drivers licence instead?
Being a complete ignoramus as to how DLSS is implemented in games, it is however kinda cool if developers don't rely on it to automatically clean up image quality/ resolution/ performance in games. I'm sure there are some developers who take pride in utilizing their skill in programming and knowledge of the hardware, without a process of automation running over the top of everything...or not.
I look forward to playing the definitive version of GTAVI...on PS6 Pro, probably.
In all seriousness, it'll be a day one/ week purchase whenever it does see release. The tech will be fascinating, not to mention seeing the talent and effort that goes into these GTA games, even if the gameplay may not be revolutionary. I hope the wait will be worth it.
These endless remakes are getting a bit dull. How many more iterations of increased detail in textures/ geometry/ lighting are we gonna get before realising we're still bound by the same invisible walls and hollow meshes as before?
It's such a shame Nintendo didn't include an OLED screen from the start. The Switch 2 LCD is fine for bright, colourful graphics (Nintendo style), but anything darker can be noticeably bad, especially if you have other handhelds to compare to...and that's aside from the blur which is very prominent in 2D graphics.
Hopefully an OLED option will happen soon. Seeing as how out of control pricing is getting for everything, a Switch 2 with OLED could still be an attractive proposition given how much the Switch 2 punches above its weight compared to PC handhelds which cost and will cost significantly more.
With the way prices are for new hardware, the previously baulkalicious prices of the PS5 Pro don't seem so obscene anymore... seriously considering getting one, especially with enhanced pisser tech.
The tech behind this is impressive but it is replacing the intended art with what DLSS thinks is 'better'. Theoretically, the look of any character could be changed to whatever face model DLSS uses as it's reference; if that was something the user could choose it may have certain benefits in certain types of games, but not in this case. I tend to agree with others that it looks too generic, even if it's more detailed.
Generative AI is the modern version of clip art. It should be acknowledged but its artistic value is nowt.
Wouldn't it be kinda cool if Microsoft would partner up with Nvidia again and essentially relaunch the Xbox? The advantage of DLSS would likely give it superior image quality and performance over any AMD powered competitors, and allow even a modestly specced configuration room to breathe (look at what can be done on Switch 2). There's also the nostalgia factor for farts like me who embraced the original Xbox, only to gradually abandon the brand.
There's some excellent ports of Super Mario 64 on Android and other weakish retro handheld systems that can run at 60fps uprezzed. Also recommend checking out the 3DS port with stereoscopic 3D for modded 3DS's.
These new chips and RAM prices the way they are gonna push prices beyond what might be reasonable for a handheld...prices already are nuts for existing devices!
This is cool tech for sure, but it still leaves us with sacrificing the contrast/ colour pop that OLED can offer in favour of clarity/ less blur. Then there's the subject of HDR; something that can have such an evocative effect on the viewer.
Still, can't wait to see these displays out in the wild.

@Darren1967 yep, it's the usual spin with any hype for new hardware. Take with a gigantic grain of salt.

Let's see how many games hit the 4k @ 60fps benchmark.

Hey, it's only taken bit over a quarter of a century for a decent sequel to Episode One: Racer! Looking forward to this!

Unless the final price has any semblance to a good deal, bundling up the glasses with a handheld that has an OLED screen seems super dumb.
Re: Review: Indiana Jones and The Great Circle Arrives Surprisingly Intact on Switch 2
Do people need to be reminded the Switch 2 consumes less than half the power of a Series $? Pretty decent trade off even if it doesn't hit 60fps.

They could at least be honest about this not being the "Definitive Edition".
